A Vocational Training Unit for the disabled and unprivileged women was established in 2005 sponsored by LIFE NGO which supported the families of over 100 fisherwomen following the disastrous tsunami in December 2004.   This training has now merged the trainees into a Self-Help Group creating wire baskets, tailoring, beadwork and other disciplines bringing dignity and independence in their lives.
