Established by Group Captain Leonard Cheshire in New Hampshire, England in 1948. Presently there are over 200 Homes world over, 22 of them in India.
In Chennai, started in 1958 at Covelong; Occupational therapy unit in 1984 at Manapakkam; Consolidated in own building in 1994 at Tiruvanmiyur - thanks to Mrs. Neela D’Souza for the land and building grants from Leonard Cheshire Foundation.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth made a visit to the Home
Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth made a visit to the Home during an official visit to India in October 1997.
A grant from the Japanese Government and people of Japan enabled extension of clinic, physiotherapy centre and workshop unit opened in 1999.
Helped victims for livelihood after national disasters like Tzunami & 2015 December Floods.
Received Kumararaja Muthiah Chettiar 89th Memorial Award from Dr. MAM Ramaswamy Chettiar Charitable Trust for the
best home serving disabled children and their rehabilitation in 2017
